A Seamless Workflow from Design to Build

An integrated workflow between architecture and structural analysis streamlines processes, enhances productivity, and boosts efficiency for all involved parties. But how can workflows be further optimized, and how can collaboration across various disciplines and specialties be improved? The answer lies in adopting “OPEN BIM.” Leveraging leading tools like ALLPLAN, SCIA Engineer, SDS/2, and FRILO, a first-class OPEN BIM workflow demonstrates how seamless data transfers can be achieved efficiently and effortlessly. Structural engineers have the autonomy to select specific model elements for calculations without needing to recreate the analytical model.
The process begins in Allplan, where a project is established based on real-world data, such as 3D terrain models, existing infrastructure, and imported point clouds, terrain points, and 2D/3D data from various specialties. Once the architectural structure is outlined, the model is prepared for finite element method (FEM) analysis with SCIA Engineer. This structural model is then converted to an analytical model via AutoConverter through BIMPlus.
The analytical model undergoes review and optimization according to Eurocode and other relevant design standards implemented with Design Forms Technology (Structural Glass Addon). The results are then integrated into specialized steel detailing (SDS/2) and 3D reinforcement solutions (Allplan Engineering), based on the initial analysis.
Throughout the design-to-build process, all data remains accessible to contractors and stakeholders via the CDE platform BIMPlus, ensuring alignment with site progress.
