PROGRAM

This is a unique opportunity to learn about a variety of topics on how to overcome the every day structural engineering challenges with the help from SCIA Engineer.

09h10-09h15 Welcome & introduction
by Chris Daly
09h15 - 09h45 How to bridge the gap between modelling and analysis software, saving you up to 30% time.

Structural engineers and technicians are brought together to collaborate effectively in an easy-to-use workflow. Automatically convert any 3D structural model into a high-quality and accurate analysis model.

After introducing their project, Will Rudd engineers will demonstrate how they converted Revit information into the analysis model for the substructure/concrete elements and ancillary buildings using SCIA AutoConverter. They will also discuss how that model was integrated within their analysis software to create and design the steel superstructure.

09h45 - 10h15 Can Parametric Design make the difference?

Parametric design helps automate the processes of a workflow and improve the time to produce an analysis model. This is useful when several iterations between the structural model and the analysis model exist. We will look at some applications for this and show what is possible.

Will Rudd will present how they used software packages, Rhino and Grasshopper, to generate space trusses for a curved roof structure. Then they will explain how Koala was used to import the roof arrangement into SCIA Engineer for analysis.

10h30 - 11h30

Delivering accurate and efficient outputs with FE Analysis.

This session will introduce some of the new analysis and design features in SCIA Engineer. Helping engineers analyse, design and check their structures according to the Eurocodes - ultimately producing efficient and economic designs. For example, efficiency gains from better material utilisation or the application 2nd order analysis with imperfections.

Will Rudd will discuss the different types of results and outputs available in SCIA Engineer and how they made their project workflow more accurate and efficient. The discussion will relate to outputs that are:

  • useful to the client, such as material take-offs for costing
  • information for other designers, such as visual aids for coordination
  • information for structural engineers and verifiers, like analytical information to validate calculative approach and certification
